Lady Luck and the Tramp

£0.99

A vagrant notices a passer-by drop some money. No one else has seen this. The vagrant moves away from his companions in the park and picks up the £10 note. He slips away and crosses the street to a shop. He decides to buy some vodka for himself and some meat for him and his dog. This leaves him with one pound change. On the counter is an electronic sign telling him there are five minutes before the lottery is closed for that evening. He buys one line with the remaining pound and retires to the Pawn Shop window to watch the lottery on the television.

“There is some very nice characterisation here. Setting and dialogue do very well to create atmosphere and mood, and to give a real sense of the story world to draw in and engage the reader. The contrast between worlds is also drawn out nicely to give us real empathy for the tramp and pleasure in his success.”
Winchester Writers’ Festival 2015.
